Sebastian Urraca focuses his practice on litigation in civil, criminal, real estate, labor, constitutional and administrative law matters.

Experience

Entering as a paralegal in 2012, Sebastian has grown through about six years in our offices, acquiring experiences and practicing along the way different areas of law, mainly Civil Law, Labor Law and Administrative Law, as well as experience in transferring vehicles registries, obtaining duplicates of corporate documents before the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santo Domingo and duplicates of certificate of titles.

From his first year of studies he began working in law, acquiring since then experience in the organization/strategies of litigation and case follow-up in many courts throughout the national territory. He has good practice in the civil and labor jurisdictions, advising on labor contentious cases seeking damages for unjustified dismissal, contract resolutions, medical malpractice, counseling telecommunication companies, criminal cases in transit matters and to a lesser extent, insurance and trust cases at the litigation level.

He has participated in cases of Amparo matters before the Superior Administrative Court, in lawsuits on Lifting of preventive seizures, processes of executive seizures. He has also worked in the area of Family Law and children’s and adolescents’ rights, both with cases of guardianship and food pension, as well as divorce by mutual agreement. Additionally, he has remarkable research and writing skills, with a good sense of synthesis to address the source of conflicts and resolve them as quickly and clearly as possible for customers. He is a promoter of alternative Dispute Resolution Methods (arbitration mediation, conciliation), as a useful way to simplify processes, further reduce the length of disputes and avoid further complications for clients, regarding the personal effects arising from legal processes as the interpersonal effects with the counterparty.

Education and publications

Sebastian holds a law degree from Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) Campus Santo Tomás de Aquino (CSTA). While in law school he participated in several seminars in civil liability law, criminal law, labor law, intellectual property law, arbitration law and constitutional law.

He also participated in various competitions organized by the PUCMM’s Law Students Committee, and the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santo Domingo, respectively: (i) 5th Edition of the Leoncio Ramos Criminal Law Competition, where he was a finalist; (ii) Intellectual Property Law Competition Rosa Campillo, CED-PUCMM CSTA, where he was a semi-finalist, and (iii) Second Competition of Arbitral Law of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Center of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santiago (CRC-STI).

He also holds a diploma in Judicial Practices and Interdisciplinary Litigation Techniques from Fundación Institucionalidad y Justicia, Inc.; as well as a diploma in Administrative Law from Federico Henríquez y Carvajal University (UFHEC).

He is currently arranging to carry out specializations in Labor Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods and Civil Procedural Law.

Affiliations and credentials.

Mr. Urraca is a member of the Dominican Bar Association, and an active member of Rotary International (Rotaract).

Among his publications is his undergraduate’s Thesis entitled “Comparative Analysis of Family Mediation in the field of the partition of Estates, as an alternative method to ordinary justice in the Dominican Republic”, presented at Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) Campus Santo Tomás de Aquino (CSTA).

Free time

He participates constantly in social service activities with Rotary International, assisting vulnerable communities within the national territory providing food, clothing, medical supplies, reforestation and school supplies. He is a tennis and soccer lover, sports he often practices, as well as photography, literature and music.
